Fedora Media Codecs

(Not all of these methods may be required together.)
  • Enable or install Cisco repo and rpmfusion free/nonfree repos via Software application
  • Install repository
  • Install the rpmfusion repository:
    • sudo dnf install \$(rpm -E %fedora).noarch.rpm \$(rpm -E %fedora).noarch.rpm
    • sudo dnf update
      sudo dnf install gstreamer1-libav gstreamer1-plugins-ugly unrar compat-ffmpeg28 ffmpeg-libs
    • sudo dnf install x264 . . . 
    • sudo dnf install compat-ffmpeg28 ffmpeg-libs
    • sudo dnf install chromium-libs-media-freeworld
    • sudo dnf config-manager --set-enabled fedora-cisco-openh264
    • sudo dnf groupupdate multimedia
    • sudo dnf install gstreamer1-plugin-openh264
    • sudo dnf install mozilla-openh264
  • Install flashplayer (see here)
    • sudo rpm -ivh
    • sudo rpm --import /etc/pki/rpm-gpg/RPM-GPG-KEY-adobe-linux
    • sudo dnf install flash-plugin alsa-plugins-pulseaudio libcurl
  • Install VLC
  • Enable plugins in Firefox Addons section
  • Set individual site prefs

DVD Video (DVD decryption)

  1. Go to this link or this link
  2. Download libdvdcss rpm file for your version of Fedora
  3. Open downloaded rpm file with Software
    1. open file browser
    2. go to Downloads folder
    3. right-click rpm file
    4. select option: Open with Software
  4. Click button: "Install"

Install VirtualBox

  1. Install dependencies
    • sudo dnf install -y binutils gcc make patch libgomp glibc-headers glibc-devel kernel-headers kernel-devel dkms qt5-qtx11extras libxkbcommon
  2. Add Oracle VirtualBox repository
    • cd /etc/yum.repos.d/
    • sudo wget
  3. Install VirtualBox
    • sudo dnf install -y VirtualBox-6.0
    • vbox kernel modules
      • sudo /usr/lib/virtualbox/ setup
  4. vbox user group
    • sudo usermod -a -G vboxusers username
  5. Download the extension pack 
  6. Add the extension pack via VirtualBox interfaces
